Mount Benson is a Geographically Indicated Wine Region situated about half way between the coastal township of Kingston and the historic fishing port of Robe in the South East of South Australia, 320kms South of Adelaide and 120kms due West of Penola.

We are part of the overall Limestone Coast Wine Region which also includes other sub-regions such as Coonawarra, Padthaway and Wrattonbully.

Our maritime location, with average mean summertime temperatures below 19 degrees Celsius and with some vineyards less than 2kms from the Great Southern Ocean, ensures a cool climate conducive to a long, slow ripening period, and, together with the richness of terra rossa soil, produces the great fruit of distinctive character which is the foundation of our fine award winning wines. While frost is less of a problem here than in some other inland Limestone Coast vineyard areas, ocean winds, often at gale force during winter provide a major challenge to the vignerons who tend the vines.

The distinctive and classic attributes of our terra rossa soil and the regions’ close proximity to the Great Southern Ocean is the basis for our registered theme of “. . . terra rossa by the sea”.
